Hiro Hamada adalah anak yang cerdas dalam bidang robotika, ia lulus SMA ketika masih berumur 13 tahun sebagai indikator kecerdasan, sikapnya santai tapi bersemangat. Kecerdasan dan potensinya ia tumpahkan dalam setiap pertandingan judi ilegal adu robot di gang-gang kota.
Ia dan kakaknya, Tadashi Hamada merupakan anak yatim piatu yang dirawat oleh bibi mereka. Berbeda dengan Hiro, Tadashi adalah pria yang ramah dan bersahabat, rapi dan selalu menasihati adiknya. Ia menganggap Hiro seharusnya lebih menumpahkan potensinya ditempat lain dan bukan dipertandingan judi adu robot ilegal di gang-gang sudut kota. Dan menyarankan Hiro agar mengikutinya bersekolah di kampusnya untuk mengembangkan potensinya dibidang robotika. Namun Hiro selalu menolak.
Hiro sendiri menganggap kakaknya adalah seorang kutu buku yang selalu mengatur dan tak dapat merasakan kesenangannya yang menggebu untuk anak seusianya. Tadashi pun akhirnya mengerti dan tetap mendukung apa yang menjadi pilihan adiknya itu, tapi ia mengajak Hiro ke kampusnya sebuah Institut teknologi di San Fransokyo (plesetan dari San Fransisco dan Tokyo). Sebelumnya Hiro tidak berminat, karena menurutnya kampus kakaknya tidak asik dan diisi oleh sekumpulan orang-orang kaku yang “kutu buku”. Tadashi kemudian mengajak Hiro ke laboratoriumnya, disini Hiro bertemu dengan teman-teman Tadashi yang diakuinya adalah orang-orang cerdas (namun masih tetap dianggapnya “kutu buku’).
Teman-teman Tadashi seperti Go Go Tamago, Wasabi, Fred Zilla, Honey Lemon telah mendengar banyak cerita tentang Hiro yang cerdas oleh Tadashi, sehingga kedatangan Hiro disambut hangat oleh mereka. Tadashi kemudian mengajak Hiro ke ruangannya, ia ingin menunjukan hasil proyek robotika buatannya.
Robotika buatan Tadashi merupakan robot dari balon berwarna putih yang dinamainya Baymax, Baymax akan bereaksi ketika mendapat sinyal rasa sakit dari makhluk hidup sekitarnya, ia memindai tubuh seseorang yang sakit kemudian mengobatinya, tak hanya itu Baymax juga dapat memberikan saran-saran kesehatan kepada pasien. Tadashi mempunyai mimpi besar agar Baymax dapat berguna untuk semua orang dalam kemanusiaan.
Di laboratorium tersebut, Hiro dan Tadashi tak sengaja menemui Professor Callaghan, ia terkesan dengan potensi Hiro, namun ia mengatakan bahwa disini adalah tempat dimana potensi digunakan untuk tujuan besar, dimana hasil ciptaan digunakan oleh umat manusia untuk kemanusiaan. Ia mengatakan hal itu di depan Hiro saat Professor Callahan mengetahui bahwa potensi Hiro hanya berakhir di perjudian ilegal adu robot di gang-gang Kota San Fransokyo.
Kata-kata Professor membuat Hiro tersadar bahwa potensi dirinya harus dikembangkan. Ia memberitahu kakanya bahwa ia akan masuk di institut teknologi tempat kakaknya belajar. Namun Tadashi mengatakan bahwa Hiro harus perlu membuat salah satu robot program baru yang akan dipresentasikan sebagai seleksi masuk institut tersebut.
Hiro dan kemudian memulai membuat program robotikanya, beberapa kali gagal, tapi atas bantuan teman-teman kakaknya, dan dukungan moril Tadashi, Hiro akhirnya menyelesaikan proyek program robotika yang akan dipresentasikan.
Awalnya Hiro gugup, kakanya yang selalu memberinya semangat akhirnya membuat Hiro termotivasi, ia menjelaskan proyek robotikanya berupa Microchip magnetik yang saling tarik menarik sehingga bergabung menjadi kumpulan ribuan Microchip, microchip ini kemudian dikendalikan lewat cara kerja syaraf dan imajinasi. Hiro menjelaskan hasil karyanya secara apik. Sehingga mendapatkan pujian dari Proffesor Callaghan dan mendapatkan tawaran bisnis untuk produk microchipnya dari Alistrair Krei, namun Hiro menolak.
Kecelakaan kemudian datang menimpa, setelah pameran gedung pementasan karya ilmiah itu terbakar, Hiro dan Tadashi pergi ke lokasi kejadian. Mengingat bahwa masih ada Professor Callaghan didalam, Tadashi kemudian masuk ke gedung yang terbakar. Namun naas gedung tersebut dan menewaskan Tadashi.
Disinilah Hiro berusaha berjuang sendiri, mewujudkan mimpinya sendiri, mencoba move on dari kejadian menyedihkan tersebut. Teman-teman Tadashi juga berusaha membangkitkan semangat Hiro. Hiro tak sengaja menemukan kembali Baymax di kamar kakaknya. Hiro dan Baymax kemudian menjadi teman dan mencoba mencari dalang pembakar gedung yang mengakibatkan tewasnya kakak Hiro, dan beberapa misteri yang nantinya akan mengejutkan. Terutama pencurian microchip buatan Hiro yang dipakai dengan tujuan jahat oleh seseorang yang memakai topeng kabuki.
Big Hero 6 adalah Film 3D animasi komputer yang akan datang dan akan diproduksi oleh Walt Disney Animation Studios, berdasarkan dari tim superhero Marval Comics dengan nama yang sama. Film ini disutradarai oleh Don Hall, co-direktur Winnie the Pooh, dan Chris Williams, co-direktur Bolt. Ini akan menjadi film animasi yang ke-54 di Walt Disney Animated Classics series.
Film Big Hero 6 menjadi yang pertama dari produksi Disney animasi untuk menampilkan karakter Marvel sejak akuisisi The Walt Disney Company dari Marvel Entertainment pada tahun 2009.
Film Big Hero 6 menampilkan sajian komedi yang lucu dan dapat dimengerti untuk semua kalangan, terutama perilaku teman-teman Tadashi yang menampilkan karakter yang berbeda, misalnya Wasabi yang terlalu patuh hukum, Contohnya seperti saat mereka berenam (karena itu dikenal sebagai Big Hero 6) dengan mengendarai mobil dikejar oleh sosok bertopeng. Pada saat ada lampu merah, Wasabi menghentikan kendaraan yang dikemudikannya dan ditanya oleh Go Go, “Why are you stopping?” (kenapa kamu berhenti).
Wasabi menjawab karena ada lampu merah yang sekonyong-konyong dibalas oleh Go Go, “Theres no red lights in car chases!” (tidak ada namanya lampu merah dalam kejar-kejaran mobil!).
Karakter seperti Fred yang konyol namun menghibur, Honey Lemon yang proaktif dan Gogo Tomago dengan sikap dingin.
Film ini juga menyajikan pergulatan emosi penonton dengan kesedihan dan ketegangan.
